Privacy policy

The short version

Remarkable keeps your class list and comments on your own device. We do not have user accounts, we do not sell data, and we do not use advertising or tracking.

What stays on your device

Student first names, pronouns, ratings, notes, comments, your own options and your house style are saved in your browser's storage on the device you use. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them, so use the Backup feature to keep a copy.

Write from notes

If you tap Write from notes, the details needed to write that one comment are sent securely to our comment-writing service and to Anthropic, the AI provider that writes the text. This includes the student's first name, pronoun, ratings, selected strengths and next steps, your notes, and your house style rules. We do not store this information. Anthropic processes it under its commercial terms. Avoid putting sensitive personal information about students in your notes.

Licences and payments

Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our reseller and processes your card details. We never see them. When you activate a licence, your licence key and a short device label are sent to Lemon Squeezy to confirm the key is valid. Remarkable checks the key again from time to time.

Files you open

When you import a class list or a style guide, or restore a backup, the file is read on your device. It is not uploaded.

Fonts and libraries

Remarkable loads fonts from Google Fonts and nothing else from outside services. These services can see your device's internet address when they deliver those files.

Children's information

Remarkable is a tool for teachers, not for children. Teachers should follow their school's data protection policy and local law (such as POPIA in South Africa) when entering student information.
