Each place is worth one tenth of the place on its left. U = units, t = tenths, h = hundredths. Next come thousandths (0,001).
8,25 = 8 + 210 + 5100
0,6 = 0,60 and 0,60 > 0,59
3,846 to 2 decimal places is 3,85
Line up the commas. Add zeros so that all numbers have the same number of places.
12,4 + 3,85 = 12,40 + 3,85 = 16,25
9,2 − 4,375 = 9,200 − 4,375 = 4,825
Multiply as if there were no commas. Then give the answer as many decimal places as the numbers have together.
2,3 × 1,4: 23 × 14 = 322
1 place + 1 place = 2 places
2,3 × 1,4 = 3,22
Divide as normal. Keep the comma in the same place in the answer.
7,56 ÷ 3 = 2,52
To multiply or divide by 10, 100 or 1000, move the comma: right to multiply, left to divide. One place for each zero.
0,74 × 100 = 74
6,3 ÷ 10 = 0,63
