A one-page CAPS Grade 4 Maths poster on multiplication and times tables (Calculations), with the key ideas, key words and a tip to remember.
Know your tables up to 10 × 10. You can multiply in any order.
3 × 6 = 18 and 6 × 3 = 18
7 × 9 = 63 and 9 × 7 = 63
Each digit moves 1 place to the left for × 10 and 2 places for × 100. Fill the gaps with zeros.
63 × 10 = 630
63 × 100 = 6 300
50 × 20: 5 × 2 = 10, then two zeros, so 1 000
The multiples of a number are the answers in its times table.
Multiples of 9: 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, ...
Split the bigger number into tens and ones. Multiply each part, then add.
27 × 6 = (20 × 6) + (7 × 6)
= 120 + 42 = 162
Multiply by the tens, then by the ones. Add the two answers.
26 × 13
26 × 10 = 260
26 × 3 = 78
260 + 78 = 338
Double means × 2. The words each and in all often tell you to multiply.
Double 65 is 130.
