1Tally and tables

Make one stroke for each answer. Every fifth stroke crosses the four before it. Count in 5s.

Example

13 = 5 + 5 + 3

2Pictographs

Read the key first. A half symbol is half of the number in the key.

CatsDogsFish= 2 petsKey
Example

Key: 1 symbol = 2 pets
Dogs: 7 symbols = 7 × 2 = 14 pets

3Bar graphs and pie charts

Read the title and the labels. Check what each gridline is worth. In a pie chart, each slice is a fraction of the total.
