Each place is worth 10 times the place to its right. HM = hundred millions, TM = ten millions, M = millions, HTh = hundred thousands, TTh = ten thousands, Th = thousands.
In 618 305 724 the 8 is in the millions place.
8 × 1 000 000 = 8 000 000
27 040 096 = twenty-seven million, forty thousand and ninety-six
Write each digit with its value, then add the parts.
700 000 000 + 4 000 000 + 50 000 + 600 + 8 = 704 050 608
9 450 000 < 10 200 000 (7 digits and 8 digits)
63 482 910 > 63 428 910 (8 is more than 2)
Look at the digit to the right of the place you are rounding to. If it is 5 or more, round up. If it is 4 or less, round down.
73 800 to the nearest 10 000 is 70 000.
38 520 000 to the nearest 1 000 000 is 39 000 000.
Find the two multiples of 5 on either side and choose the one that is closer.
4 862 is between 4 860 and 4 865.
4 862 is 2 from 4 860 and 3 from 4 865, so it rounds to 4 860.
