Remarkable / Worksheets / Grade 6 Maths / Symmetry, transformations and position
A one-page CAPS Grade 6 Maths poster on symmetry, transformations and position (Shapes and space), with the key ideas, key words and a tip to remember.
A line of symmetry cuts a shape into two halves that are mirror images. A regular polygon has as many lines as sides.
A regular pentagon has 5 lines of symmetry.
Every point goes to the other side of the mirror line, the same distance away. The shape keeps its size.
A half turn makes a shape upside down.
Multiply every length by the same number to enlarge. Divide every length to reduce.
A triangle with sides 2, 3 and 4 cm,
enlarged 3 times: 6, 9 and 12 cm
A shape tessellates when copies fit together with no gaps and no overlaps. Squares, rectangles, triangles and regular hexagons tessellate. Circles do not.
Give the column letter first. Then give the row number.
The pond is in square D1.
